The engraving on top of the barrel is partly legible: The rear sight looks to be a period replacement, which is unfortunately not fully functional. This Carbine has the "Crescent" butt plate with working storage compartment, and the side mounted saddle ring. It does show lands and grooves, but also areas of oxidation and fouling. Still fully functional, the action cycles great, with a 20 inch round barrel with a good bore. Offered in very nice aged condition and correct in all respects, serial number 175562A indicates that it was manufactured in 1885. 44/40 (marked 44 CAL. over the chamber), as used in both carbines and six guns revolvers of the era.
